Dundee Spring Jam 2010

Hey Guys!!

Our 2nd annual Dundee Spring Parkour Jam will be on the 25th of April, this year!!

It would be amazing if everyone we know could come along, so we can show the other guys from around the UK that we have a strong community!

I'll have time to do a proper write-up a bit later, but make sure you reserve that date as free!! :D

St Andrews Spring '10 Jam Re-cap

It was amazing!

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who made it to the jam today!! You guys really made this day as great as it was! I really hope we can get everyone together again sometime soon! ..we really had a great day, and couldn't have asked for better weather! Traceurs attended from all over, we had guys from Glasgow, Dundee, Kirkcaldy, and areas in between. As I recall, we had around 17 freerunners, making this one of the biggest and most succesful jams we've hosted!

The day kicked off at quarter past 11, at the St Andrews bus station, where we met up with some of the Glasgow guys. We made our way along to around the back of the University for warm-ups, and spent about a half hour on stretching, quadripedal movement, and the eyeing of the amazing training spots there. The rest of the guys who attended the jam showed up at this point, and we had a grand total of 17 traceurs for the day! Sadly, after just managing to warm up, we got asked to move on by campus security. Well, being the courteous freerunners we are, we moved on, resolving to come back nearer to the end of the day..

Up next, we headed off to the british golf museum spots. Here, everyone was in their zone, and a lot of 'sweet moves' were soon dished out. Among the more daring movements were; huge kong-precisions over a drop, precisions and cats over an even larger drop, and general mayhem that would probably have older people reaching for more cough-medicine "because this stuff is just so good". Here, we also indulged in some tricking on the grassy areas, and Andrew got handstand-to-benches, after several rather awkward failed attempts (got one on camera! :D)

The 2 crates of Monster Energy we got given for this event were half gone by this point, and we decided it was time to take some sponsorship photos. So Andrew got creative with perspective and got videos of people jumping into, cat leaping, and doing flips into and over cans of Monster.. After spending about an hour or so at the golf museum, we crossed the near-by parking lot, to the rocky outcrops at the end of the beach. Until about 2pm we were lost in our own little world, trying bigger and bigger precisions, some rock climbing, picture-taking, and several new flips. Cameron landed his first side 540's today!! They look kind of like front 540's, but better! We will hopefully see one amongst the 2 or 3 videos of the day.

A reporter and a photographer from The Courier came along at about 2:30, and we had several interviews and pictures taken. We had a very good talk with the reporter, and I'm really looking forward to reading the article! (should be printed on Monday)

After the beach, we stopped by Tesco to grab some food, and walked over to the Cathedral to get some "scenic training". The beautiful ruins gave us the opportunity to practice quite a lot of different rock-climbing routes, as well as a lot of different sized precisions and little runs. Over here everyone also did quite a bit of tricking and flipping. I almost got my b-twists back, while Ross got his slant gainers again..then one of the glasgow guys (sorry I forgot your name!..Sam?) went and did a b-twist to swing-through gainer, as well as a cork, and blew us all away! We spent an hour or so at the Cathedral, finishing the last of the Monster, getting another couple of sponsor photos, and generally chillin'.

At this point we all decided to go back and try the spot behind the University again, but quite abruptly we got asked to leave again, by campus security (idk why, but hopefully next jam they won't be quite as attentive)..and we all made our way to the "grassy, raily, and wally" spot in front of a cafe in the town centre. We spent about an hour here training all sorts of different movements, including some which probably shouldn't be considered parkour.. Most of the guys who were there, landed Wilson's "standard" kong-precision on one side, and I got some amazing, and amusing stunts on film before my camera battery finally died (stupid forgetful-ness of the charging of my own camera! xD)

After it started getting a bit darker and a lot colder, and after another stop at Tesco, we walked over to "the ruins", a spot we haven't trained at in St Andrews, before. A couple of guys had to head home shortly after (it was around half 5), and the rest of us had a very nice cool-down stretching session, followed by a stop at a cafe and a surprisingly quite painless (unlike the usual) walk to the bus station..

All in all, I would have to say this jam was really a great success!! Everyone had fun, landed some new tricks, and got to meet and socialize with new people.. And once again, thanks to everyone who made it today, and I really hope we can all get together and train again very soon!

ps
I will hopefully have my version of the video up within the next few days. I didn't get too much footage, so it should be a very quick and painless edit.

pps
I really apologize to everyone who expected this jam to last for 2 days, but only 2 people who came on the first day would be able to make it to the 2nd, and we just decided to train in Dundee on the Sunday, instead..

ppps
Is that too many p's? ..sorry if I went into too much detail!! Tell me what you think?

St Andrews Jam is now 2 days! :D

Guys, (skip to the edit at teh bottom please! :D )

I'm very sorry for this last-minute change, but the St Andrews jam has been re-scheduled for the 13th of March (this Saturday), instead of the 14th of March, as the 14th is Mother's Day.

I knew it was Mother's Day when I scheduled it, but I didn't realise until yesterday just how many people wouldn't be able to make it to the jam as a result..

The good news is that you still have a week to change any tickets you might have to the day before!! We're proceeding with the same times, but if you can get here earlier, that would be great, as I would love to go to St Andrews for 10am instead of 11am.

If you show up in Dundee and noone is at the bus station, make sure you txt me and catch the next 99 bus (any letter) to St Andrews! We will hang around the St Andrews bus station area until 11-11:30 as planned, though!

I hope to see you guys there, and make sure to text and call me if you have any questions, as that would be faster than email! My number is: 07760474207

ps
I'm really sorry for any inconveniences I might have caused by this! xD

[EDIT]
OK, after several complaints (sorry, guys) I've decided this will be a 2-day jam!! So if you can come to both, please do! And if you can't, I hope to see you on at least one of the days!!! :D
