One Giant Leap- Dundee Jam Review

Hey Guys,

Here is a little recap from the One Giant Leap jam we held in dundee.
On Saturday the 26th of September DUPK held a jam for the One Giant Leap campaign, in Dundee. It was supposed to be the biggest coordinated jam in the world with more than a hundred cities participating worldwide. Ours was probably the smallest with only 3 people attending. ( ...Bitches, lol) :-X

The three attending traceurs were Rustic, Andrew (ASK) and me. We gathered at Baxter park for a little warm up before heading over to the high school right next to the park.
We found a spot to practise different movements such as dive rolls, precision jumps and kongs. After some very amusing attempts at chain surfing we grabbed our bags, got some drinks and wandered down towards town. To our amusement Rustic side tracked us into a music store to play the piano for a while.

Later we found ourselves at a familiar spot behind the Overgate. A very nice security man told us we had to clear off as we had no permission to film on their property. He did tell us where to go to ask for permission which is more than most of these villains would do. Prior to this incident though; Andrew mastered a giant leap of over 12 feet after launching himself of a wall. Amazing!

Overall it was a great day. We got some good video that we sent off to the One Giant Leap Campaign people to be edited into a compilation video for the whole event. Here is hoping andrew's leap makes it into the cut!!

St Andrews Jam '09 Review

Hey everyone,

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who came along to our jam yesterday! The day turned out to be great, the people were awesome, the tricks were awesome, and most importantly, the weather was awesome! ..even though it was supposed to rain most of the day..

Sadly, Mike and I were the only guys to attend from Dundee, but we also got five more people from Glasgow, and 4 from Kirkcaldy, at the last minute, so our participant total was 13 people! The jam started when we got to St Andrews at 12:15pm. We kicked it off with a tricking warm-up session on the grass outside of a church by the St Andrews bus station. Just when we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles and pats on the back from everyone, and we introduced ourselves, and got introduced to the new guys there for the day.

Soon after, we decided to make our way to Tesco to buy some lunch, stopping at some more random and interesting spots on the way.. After "replenishing" ourselves, we took the whole group to around the roof area of the St Andrews Golf Museum. (From the side we approached it, though, the roof was at ground level) After a half-hour session there, we made our way closer to the beach area and practiced a lot of different flips and tricks off of a concrete block, onto the sand. At one point, we were amused to find a group of about 50-60 university age girls (we guessed that they were on a tour of some kind) standing a bit further away, and cheering us on! After showing off for their cameras for a bit, we decided to head off to the beloved St Andrews sand dunes..

At the sand dunes we all got to learn some new tricks, and re-learn our old ones, as there is almost no fear. Admittedly, there were some close calls (including myself), but I'm glad to say that noone got injured, and everyone had a lot of fun!

After the sand dunes, we headed off to the cathedral, where we practiced some actual parkour movements, and where we all got our group pictures.

As the day was drawing to a close, we all stopped by a burger shack to grab a bite, and then walked everyone back to the bus station, to head for home.

Once again, I am very happy to say that today was an awesome day, and I can't wait for the next jam that will be organized!

I also want to thank the Street Devils for hosting the jam in St Andrews, and the Urban Elite guys for making the effort to come down from all the way out in Glasgow. Thanks to you guys, we all gained some experience, and definitely a lot of footage for our samplers and videos!

Keep Training,
Rustic B

ps
The next thing we organize will either be a Kirckaldy jam, or a big trip to a very good gymnastics gym in Edinburgh..so please keep checking our forum for the latest news! http://dundeepk.proboards.com

pps
The St Andrews Jam video will be out within this week hopefully.

St Andrews Jam '09!!

Hey everyone,

First of all, we would like to welcome everyone back to Dundee, and for those of you who are new to the group, welcome to DUPK!

We will be kicking off our new training year with a day trip/jam to St Andrews this Saturday (September 19th)! This will be an awesome and fun day to get to catch up with everyone, and to acquaint yourself with some new parkour and tricking spots/moves! The bus, once again, is £5 for a return tickes, and we should all take some extra cash for food and drink.

We are going to meet at the church in town, by the Overgate, at quarter to 12, that way we can catch a bus at around 12, and we have a good amount of time to train. If you're busy until a certain time, please let me know so we can come down to the station to meet you, when you arrive!

We will be training with the guys from the "Street Devils", along with some other traceurs from the fife and kirkaldy area.

I really hope all of you guys can make it, as there will be opportunities to train in environments which we don't get here in Dundee. St Andrews has an awesome beach/sand-dune part to train tricking, wallflips, etc. and some very good PK spots to practice consecutive runs.

Here is the video from last year's trip, and this year looks really promising, as to be even better than last year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MgusYM7Puo
After this trip, we will start our regular training times, with some slight changes (tbc) as I live farther away now.

Anyway, I hope to see you all Sunday morning, and I hope you're getting back into the swing of things here at Uni, smoothly.

Cheers,
Rustic
