Kirkcaldy Fall '09 Jam Review

Hai Gaiz!!

Here's my re-cap of the Kirkcaldy jam. Unfortunately, due to some drunken escapades in Leeds, I wasn't able to be there the whole day. But my train arrived at 1pm so I'll tell you what happened from then on ;)

As I said before, I arrived at the Kirkcaldy jam at 1pm, this past Saturday (26th). All of the guys who attended were nice enough to be waiting for me there, as I have only been to "kdy" once before...the weather was really rainy and grey throughout the whole country on Saturday, but after a couple of hurried texts, everyone decided to come out to train anyway.

The first place we went to (after grabbing some lunch from Tesco) was a multi-story car park. As it was raining at this moment, we really tried to keep to sheltered (roofed-in) areas, to avoid "catching the greyness" of the day... I'm not sure which car-park this was, but I do know that we had about an hour's woth of fun here. We trained different climbing techniques to go up and down the stories, we trained "ground zero" stuff, as we traversed one of the outside walls without touching the ground, and closer to the end of our car-park time, we found a nice set of corner rails to practice some flowing movement. Cameron (Street Devils) was the only guy who had a camera on him that day, so I think he got some pretty good footage from our efforts..

After the car-park, the skies began clearing up a little, so we braved the outside and proceeded to the Kirkcaldy beach area. here we found an interesting Kong-Precision over a VERY cold fast running stream..after a couple of tries by "Jonathan the Brave", I along with a couple of more guys removed our shoes and gave it a try. It was some pretty scary stuff, but we did manage to make it across (most of us) without getting ourselves extremely wet and cold.. After this spot, we went along to some BIG abandoned concrete blocks just laying there in the sand (I think these were either building foundations, or left-overs from some kind of war) and here I practiced some "runs"..it was very interesting trying to find different routes through the blocks..

Further along the beach, though, we all found a place with some soft sand to practice flips into. Here, we spent about an hour and a half, and some of the landed tricks were a Double Cork (off of a big block, by Wilson), an aerial twist by one of the guys (sorry forgot your name!), and Jonathan came really close to landing some of his first front flips! :D

After spending some "quality" time with the blocks, we went back towards town, practicing some big drops (big jumps and landings) into sand, and just generally trying to find a more interesting spot. We eventually came to right outside of tesco, where we practiced trying to stay quiet while moving across concrete terrain...the day ended soon after, and as I sat on the train on my way back, I thought it was another jam well run! Seriously, I think we've had a lucky streak or something, looking by how good all of our events for the past month or two have been!

I hope you guys enjoyed this review, and I hope to see you at our next gathering! We are either planning to go train with the Urban Elite guys in Glasgow, or go to an Edinburgh gymnastics gym training session next!

Dundee Fall '09 Jam Review

Hey Guys and Gals,

Firstly, I would like to thank all of you who came down yesterday, and made our jam as great as it was! We had people from Wishaw, St Andrews, Fife, Dundee, and areas near Edinburgh. Sam, Andrew, and I were the only guys who attended from Dundee. In total, the jam comsisted of 11 freerunners (just 2 less than the St Andrews Jam), and ran from 11:30am to around 6pm, with immaculate weather.

After meeting up in town with one of the guys from St Andrews, James, we headed up to meet everyone at the Bus Station. Our jam then commenced with an hour long warm-up session at a set of walls across the road from the bus station, before we made our way back towards the center of town. Here, we waited for the Urban Elite guys to show up, before practicing a series of very big precision jumps, a couple of flips, and some more "naturally-flowing" tree climbing techniques.

An hour later, we headed off to Roseangle, where we practiced some tricking (Sam landed his first front tuck here!), and some more flow training at a spot with a corner railing and a very slippery wall. Tommo pulled off a very good tumble pass here, consisting of a roundoff, 5 back hand-springs, ending with a back tuck, while I got my standing back-tucks and b-twists (sort-of) back!

Another hour or so later, we were off again, to a new spot that we found recently, called the "fishy wall", which is a VERY good spot to practice dyno's while trying to ge up a 10-14ft (it slopes) wall. On the way there, though, El had a pretty epic bail on one of the spots that we used to train at. He tried to do a tic-tac off a wall and grab a walk-way bridgem but his legs accidentally swung under and he fell onto his back and wrists/elbows. You'll see this in our jam video, though...

After hanging about the fishy wall for a while, we all headed back into town to grab some food, before attempting to train at Caird Hall for a bit. Right on que, though, the usual security guard came out and told us to leave, so we headed towards another new spot we found, which is behind the Wellgate. Here, we practiced some very large precisions and cats, with various-heighted drops in between. I'm happy to report, that noone hurt themselves here, and even when James managed to pull off a front flip off of a 10ft wall nearby...

To close our jam, we headed to our usual training spot around the back of the Overgate, where I once again managed to perform a 13ft wal-run, while Cameron landed some tunnel-flips on concrete..but here two very unhappy guards came out (why, I'm not sure, because we always train here and they're fine with it) and told us to leave...in a very rude way o_0 (bastards?)

So after about 6-7 hours of hard, yet fun, training and jamming, we all decided to go and said our goodbyes, but not before Andrew managed to crack some class jokes at "other people's" expense. After the Urban Elite guys, and some of the street devilz decided to head, the last 5 of us headed to Jimmy Chungs for some long-awaited grub, and an all-you-can-eat buffet!

I'm very happy to say that I think our Dundee Fall jam went even better than planned, and I think everyone came out of it having learnt something new. I, for one, didn't feel the usual pains after a jam, but rather I felt the muscle tiredness, and "satisfaction" from a jam that went well.. Please keep a look-out for our video, which should be out within this week..thanks for reading, and I hope to see all of you, and more, at our Spring Jam 2010 in April!!

Peace,
Rustic

Kirkcaldy Fall Jam - 24th October

Hey guys and girls,

I have just received confirmation that the Street Devils (fife) will be hosting a BIG jam in Kirkcaldy, on Saturday, the 24th of October. Everyone will meet at 11am outside of the train/bus stations, which are about a minute apart from each other, then meet up to start the day. The jam will go on until about 6pm. Several videos will be made, among them the "Kirkcaldy Training Part 2" from the Street Devilz, as well as the first few clips for the new project DUPK is working on..as well as samplers and jam videos, of course.

This jam will be the biggest jam for Kirkcaldy this year, and we are expecting a substantial turn-out, so please try to be there for this historic (sort-of) event!!

This jam is set to be on the last Saturday before the end of the October holidays, that way everyone should be able to make it, and you should all still have Sunday to rest up before school starts again. This will basically, then, be held on the last few days of the last "holidays" before the end of the year, and quite possibly the last opportunity to jam in the nicer spectrum of the Scottish weather. After this jam, everyone will be either holding small training sessions, or jams..but we don't expect there to be turn-outs bigger than 10 or so people.

In the past, we've had lots of jams with people from different areas participating, and everyone is once again welcomed back to our side of the island for an awesome and fun day! The next big jam over here will be the Dundee Spring Jam, in April.

Anyway...to get off of the depressing subjects, PLEASE COME ALONG!!! And please try and get as many people as you can to come, too, as this jam should be bigger than this year's Dundee Spring one, with about 25-30 people.

Hope to see you all there!!

Dundee Autumn Jam - Saturday Oct 17!!

Hey guys,

So here goes our second try at our autumn parkour jam in Dundee!
Last time it was on a Sunday and not many people could make it to
start off with, but it also was really bad weather, so here goes our
second try!

The jam will commence at 12pm, at the Seagate bus station. Bring cameras, water, and money for food, as we'll be jamming until Sunset, if not later, and will then wrap it all up with a trip to either Pizza Hut or Jimmy Chungs. This event looks really promising, as we have learned a lot about running a jam from our last Dundee Spring Jam.

This time around, we will also get to see some newly discovered hotspots, so come ready for an awesome and fun day, and we hope to see you there!!

We really hope you guys can make it, and I'm sorry for the short
notice, once again, but I couldn't make it the next Saturday because
it's the Kirkcaldy jam! (Of which I'll write later)
